U.S. National Toboggan Championships—Camden Snow Bowl

The Camden Snow Bowl, home of the U.S. National Toboggan Championships,  is just north of Rockland and south of Belfast on RoutThey're stylin'e 1. The mountain is  located about three miles off Route 1— you’ll find it by following the signs.

The mountain is not a large one. The base elevation is 150′ above sea level and the top elevation is a mere 1093′ above sea level but it is a favorite for you and old alike.  There is skiing with eleven trails and four lifts (1 Chairlift, 2 T-Bars, 1 surface lift).  There’s two lanes of tubing, a tobaggon chute, trails for snowshoeing and hiking,  and ice skating on Hosmer Pond. It is a well rounded winter recreation area that is great for the entire family.

Each FebruarTobogganing Funy for the past nineteen years, folks have flocked to the area from far and wide to enjoy the fun U.S. National Toboggan Championships—the  only organized wooden toboggan race in the country and possibly the world.  The chute is 400 ft. long, 70 ft. in elevation and speeds up to 40 mph are attained. The run-out is on to frozen Hosmers pond. If there is clear ice on the pond, some sleds will go the entire way across (1/4 of a mile).  This year, they are being held from February 6 – 8, so if you read this tonight and want to join in on the fun, you still another day!  What a great way to beat those winter doldrums!!
