Road Trip – Off We Go!

If you’ve come in search of me,
I can be found down by the sea.
Feet in the sand, wind in my hair,
the Sea and Me, an inseparable pair.

We are packed (well almost) and ready to leave the snow, ice and mud for a month vacation. Whooo-Hoooo!! We are leaving for Florida tomorrow morning. While I never thought that I was they type of person to spend time in Florida in the winter, I find that these long, snowy, cold Maine winters seem much longer as I get older.

Last year, shortly after hubby retired for the first time, we decided to fly to Florida for a ten day get-away. In mere hours, we were in a warm sunny place that did wonders for our morale. We fished, walked the beaches and swam in the warm Gulf waters.  I finally decided that maybe the snowbirds know what they are doing after all.

Hubby retired for the second time yesterday  (he was retired for only six weeks before returning to work  the first time). This time he says it is for good. :-)   This year we have decided to drive to Florida. We will stop on the way down to visit and do some sight-seeing with our son and daughter-in-law in Washington DC. Then we will continue on to Dania, Florida and the Miami MermaidMiami Mermaid, where we will spend the next four days learning how to pilot the boat. The captain will go with us and teach us all the fundamentals of running a trawler. There is, of course, more to the story of the trawler. Dear hubby is hoping to convince me that we should buy one and cruise around the ocean for the next four or five years.  We’ll see…

I am taking the laptop with us and I will try to blog my way down and back. I would love to share some of the places that we visit and things that we do, so please stop by often.  Now, if you will excuse me, I’m off to finish the packing detail.  As Giddy from The Giddy Garden Gnome says “Life is really, really good”.

OK, I’m jealous! But, I will look so forward to reading all your posts while you’re gone. I’ll have to look up where Dania is on the map. Our sons live in Dunedin and Northport. We’ll be going down for a brief visit in June and then plan on Jan-Mar next year. When you get back, we really must get together!

    • I am SO ready to go. I keep finding stuff that I want to take with me. Good thing we have a truck! Dania is near Miami. Hey, you guys are really going to be snowbirds next year. I’m sure both of your and the cats will enjoy that warmer weather down there and NO SHOVELING!! Getting together would be great!

  • Lucky you!(smile) No snow, no ice, no bulky winter coats and to top it off you will probably miss the mud season! Sounds like a fun vacation – be safe and have fun! Looking forward to your vacation posts!
