I recently was taking photo’s of shrimp boats here in Swansboro. I love, love, love shrimp boats and since I’m rarely the only one there taking photo’s, I guess I’m not the only one. While there, quite a few gulls were flying around so I captured a few photo’s of them too. Seagulls are great subjects to practice on since they are not usually too afraid of people. When I got home and put my photo’s on the computer, I found this one and was about to delete it when something stopped me. It just seemed to be kind of a neat, but blah photo.
So I cropped it a bit, used a Lightroom Auto Tone Filter and did a bit of sharpening. It was still just ok so I almost threw it away again. It was then that I remembered that both Lightroom 5 and OnOne’s Perfect Photo Suite, which I have on my computer, have various filters. I had never really never tried to do much with filters so I thought I would give them a try. As I played around with the various looks, I was pretty amazed at some of the results. Some are subtle, some are simply horrible and some make for a pretty neat looking photo. I have shown the original above and then two that I really liked below. Granted, they may not appeal to everyone but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 😉
Have you ever used filters on your photo’s? What are your favorites?
