Patience is a virtue. I recently came upon a blog written by Ali Edwards with the concept of “One Little Word“. She writes that “A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow“.
She goes on to say, “In 2006 I began a tradition of choosing one word for myself each January – a word to focus on, mediate on, and reflect upon as I go about my daily life. These words have each become a part of my life in one way or another. They’ve been embedded into who I am and into who I’m becoming. They’ve been what I’ve needed most (and didn’t know I needed). They’ve helped me to breathe deeper, to see clearer, to navigate challenges, and to grow”.
Since reading this around the end of December, I kept running it through my mind. Today, I decided that my 2016 “One Little Word” would be “patience”. If you know me, you know that I am not and never have been a patient woman. 🙄 Friends and family often hear me saying – “Lord grant me patience and I want it NOW!”😇 You would think that I would be more patient as I grow older but in many ways, I am WAY less patient. I am finding this especially true in my photography. Photography is something that I enjoy immensely these days but I find that my patience often runs out when figuring settings or even when taking photos. And we won’t even discuss my patience tolerance for the medical stuff going on with me.
While thinking about “patience”, I found an inspiring blog post, written by DR Christina Hibbert, a psychologist, about practicing patience. She writes: “Patience is a virtue,” it’s been said, and certainly it’s true. When we live with patience, we experience greater peace, joy, and love. We notice and embrace the beautiful parts of life and endure gracefully the hard parts. As we practice patience, we help our families and communities experience greater peace, joy, and love too.” She believes that patience is actually a skill, and like any other skill you can get better at it with practice.

So my one little word for the year is “patience”. Patience with my photography, with my medical issues and most of all with myself and others. This is going to be my year of “patience” and TRUST me when I say, this is going to really test my patience 😅.
