Do you mind if I talk about a moment of pride that I had recently? I have been meaning to write this post since shortly after Presidents Day. We were camping when the article came out. I got the printed copy on the weekend after Presidents day and figured that I would write a post in the next few days. Where the heck does time go??
On a windy, stormy day back in February 2016, I decided that I wanted to go to Fort Macon to photograph the waves at the jetty. You can see some of the photos that I took that afternoon HERE.
I got some awesome photos that afternoon of the waves and surf but just as I was about to leave, a red shrimp boat came around the corner. He was rocking and rolling in the waves and I started taking photos. We all know that shrimpers are my favorite subject to photograph and here was one in stormy seas!
I got home and processed the photos, putting some on Facebook and some on this site. That would have been the end of it but friend, Jon, thought that I should send one of the photos to the Raleigh News & Observer’s, “Your Best Shot”. Hmmm…I never have done that type of thing but thought I would give it a shot (pun intended). Low and behold, it was selected and printed in the newspaper. I thought it was pretty cool and then forgot all about it.
Imagine my surprise when I got an email from the newspaper at the beginning of February that read “I wanted to let you know that The News & Observer will be publishing a special section of the best of the Your Best Shot photos we received in 2016, and that yours will be among them. The 8-page section is scheduled to appear on President’s Day, Feb. 20. In addition, we will run a special gallery of the photos on our website, newsobserver.com.
Congratulations on being chosen. We are always pleased and impressed with the photos that readers share with us, even more so when we see the best of them assembled in one place”. I must admit that having my photo chosen for the best of “Your Best Shot 2016” was a pretty special moment and I felt a sense of pride. It is very cool to see one of my photos printed in a newspaper and also in their website online gallery. A moment of pride indeed – It’s the little things. 😊
