A moment in history…

Barack Obama will be sworn in today as the  44th president of the United States of America and as the first African-American man to hold this office.Barack Obama - 44th President of the United States

Whether or not you voted for him, Mr. Obama has energized millions of American’s to pay attention to politics with his message of “change”.  His commanding presence inspires hope and confidence and Americans of all color are looking forward to a brighter future with him at the helm.  He confronts many challenges and not only the folks in the US but the world will be watching. Time will tell…but today is his day and this day will go down in history. God bless the USA.

and one last thought

I wrote the above post this morning but I have just now finished watching our new president being sworn in. Over one million people were in the mall to see this monumental event plus countless folks all over the world. I watched, sometimes with tears in my eyes, while President Obama delivered a powerful speech.  His speech was sober but also full of hope. “Our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed, starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin the work of remaking America.“  Yes, that may have been a shot at the Bush administration but I think that most of us would agree that America does need some work.

I am always proud to be an American, but on a day like today, that feeling is reinforced. Do I always agree with government or the policies.  Not only no, but hell no!  That’s the beauty of being an American. I have the freedom to have my own opinions  and even voice them publically. I am so lucky to  live in such a great country.

Wasn’t the whole spectacle of seeing all those people on the Mall, and all the prayers and speeches just incredible?! We really are lucky to live in a country where transition of such great power happens so smoothly. God Bless America and our 44th President! : )
