Today is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. This afternoon, Mr. B & I drove to the beach on Emerald Isle to watch the sunset. It was a beautiful warm afternoon here on the Crystal Coast and I even dipped my toes into the water.
Did you know that the solstice is sometimes on December 21st and sometimes on the 22nd? It arrives at different times of the day. Today it arrived at 12:11 PM (ET). This is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. The good news (really GREAT news) for those of us that don’t like darkness setting in so early in the afternoon, is that from here on in, the days get longer Yipee!!
It turned out that the sunset was not as spectacular as we had hoped but it was pretty. As we headed over the EI bridge to go home, the sky turned a brilliant pink and I stopped to take a few more photo’s. That is when the sunset turned into the spectacular event that I had hoped for. For those of you that were unable to see the sunset, I thought I would share a few photo’s with you. Enjoy!
